Jinny part 4

After about an hour of doing twenty meter circles, leg yielding, reining back and cantering, Jinny was satisfied with the progress she had made with Pondie in their dressage training and she started to cool her horse down. Suddenly she heard the door slam and her mother’s figure walked out the door. “I’m glad you’re back in the saddle” Jinny walked Pondie over to the gate and her mother stretched out her hand to pat Pondie’s sleek chestnut nose.  “Pond and Luna missed being ridden so I got over myself and” Jinny paused as she thought what to say next. “I decided to ride” her mother nodded and said “Well, now that you’re on holidays you can ride for as long and as much as you want” Jinny smiled “I’m happy that you’re feeling better” Then she walked away.

Once Pondie was cooled down and untacked, she turned him out in the paddock and went back to her house to have her breakfast. Her mother was making everyone breakfast! Eggs sizzled on the frying pan and the water boiled. Jinny licked her lips and her tummy rumbled from hunger, she was ready to devour her food.

Once again, Jinny was back in the stables, this time she was tacking Luna up. Every day, before Storm passed away, she would go down to the stables in the early morning, ride one horse then have her breakfast and before it was lunch, she would have ridden the other two. She would have a little spare time now since she only had two horses but at least she could concentrate on them more.

Once Jinny had ridden Luna, she turned her out in the same paddock as Pondie was in. After she had done that, she went to the tack room and grabbed a bottle of leather soap and a cloth. She had a roster of things she had to do around the horses and stables almost every day and once a month she would have to polish all the tack that her family owned.
Finally she had finished and her arms were sore. She flopped back on the chair she was sitting on not feeling like moving another muscle, but of course, she had to do the rest of her chore. She looked up on the list of things to do.
1-      Clean all the tack
2-      Muck out all the stables
3-      Lunge Bilby
4-      Feed all horses apart from Lilac and Spark.
5-      Put hay bags in the empty stables
6-      Turn out the rest of the horses in the stable overnight (and rug them)
7-      Put all the horses in the upper paddock in the stables
8-      Rug horses in paddocks
Jinny sighed at the list, she usually enjoyed doing her chores but she wasn’t feeling up to it. With the marker next to the list, she crossed out the first chore. “Muck out all the stables” Jinny said out loud. “That’s a lot of stables to muck out Jinny” an unusual voice said. Jinny peered around the corner of the tack room. It was Tim, the farrier. “Hi, Tim, who are you shoeing today?” Jinny asked “Rodger and Storm” Jinny gulped at the sound of Storms name. “Umm. I thought mum cancelled Storm’s appointment, didn’t you hear, Storm got put down” Tim paused to think of the right thing to say “Oh dear, I’m so sorry” “It’s fine” Jinny faintly smiled “Oh, Rodger is in the paddock, do you want me to get him?” “Yeah, that’d be great, I’ll set up in the meantime” Jinny nodded and started to walk-jog her way to Rodger’s paddock.  Great, another job to add to my list, Jinny thought.
By the time she got Rodger in the stable, Tim was already set up, his file, stand, rasp and all his other farrier equipment were waiting for Rodger. Jinny handed Rodger over to Tim and straight away he began. Once Rodger was already in his new shoes, Jinny had finished mucking out the last stall.

Marmot's are like large squirrels, they are covered with thick dark brown fur to protect them against cold.

#1- They can live for 6-10 years, depending on if they live in captivity.
#2- Marmots live in grasslands and forests, where there is good soil to build burrows in.
#3- Marmots are herbivores meaning that their diet only consists of plants like grasses and flowers.
#4- They communicate with each other by 'whistling'
#5- The Hoary Marmot can be 62-82 cm long.

Winter Ferrets

Lilly is getting fluffier and her fur is getting thicker now that winter has started and she is sleeping a lot more and being less active. Last night, I let her run around for an hour and then she fell asleep, usually she would run around for two-three hours.

Jinny part 3

The week after Storm’s death went by slowly and painfully. Every night since the day, Jinny had being crying herself to sleep. Storm was her first horse and after six long years of gaining each other’s trust, their bond was unbreakable, they didn’t start off very well together when Jinny first rescued her, even though her parents kept on saying to sell her on, Jinny always knew that there was a second chance in every horse, despite the countless times Storm had hurt Jinny, she wouldn’t give up. Jinny had nightmares and often found herself waking up to the slightest nicker that sounded like Storms and that soon became her obsession. Every day, from her peripheral vision she would see dark shadows, she would hear Storm’s neighing and nickering and worst of all she kept on hearing Storm’s quick and shallow breaths when she was lying in the stable and picturing her last moments- her chest going up and down with every breath until she was gone.

It had being a month since Storm had died and she hadn’t ridden since, she wasn’t planning to any time soon, at least not onto her favourite trail.  That would always remain a sacred place to Storm and her. The only exercise Luna and Pondie got was being lunged, as always she would rely on her horses to comfort her but she just couldn’t hug another horse without thinking of Storm. It had being her fault for riding there that morning. It had being her fault for not letting Storm rest while she called her parents for help. She was blaming everything on herself. School for Jinny hadn’t being going too well either. She found it harder to concentrate.

That morning marked exactly one month since Storm died and Jinny made her way up to Storms paddock, where she had been buried. She sat cross-legged on the cold, wet grass. She had come to her paddock at 6:00 AM, the same time she left for the ride. 5 minutes passed, then 10 and before Jinny knew it, she had being daydreaming for half an hour. It was around at 6:45 that Storm would get bitten by the snake. “I’m sorry Stormy, I hope your happy now” The sun was now fully up and it was drying up the wet grass. Jinny inhaled deeply as tears started to pour down her face. “Let’s say” she paused as she bit her lip to not cry hysterically. “Let’s say that every morning, at 6ish we will be with each other, like we were last month” Jinny looked up at the sky, her eyes rimmed with tears, clouds were beginning to form. Suddenly she felt peace and didn’t feel like crying anymore. She felt a presence behind her and as if someone got into her mind and told her to get up, and she did, she went to see Pondie and Luna. When Jinny brought over Pondie’s tack, he looked at her as if he didn’t know what she was carrying, it was some time Jinny hadn’t ridden him. When she opened his stall, she rubbed his beautiful head and tied him up. All tacked up she mounted. “I should be saying sorry to you guys now, I haven’t ridden you in so long!”

Sorry this part didn't come out last week but I was SUPER busy (lol)

Chameleon

Chameleon

Chameleons are known for their amazing colour-changing skills, most can but people also think they change colour to blend in with their surroundings but that is not true, they can change colour to communicate and to show their emotions.

#1- Chameleons can be as small as your thumb fingernail.
#2- Chameleons are omnivores meaning they eat both plants and insects.
#3- Their tongues are very long enabling them to catch prey from further away.
#4- Chameleons habitat is mostly rain forests in Madagascar and Madagascar islands.
#5- The chameleons biggest threat are humans who destruct their habitat.

Tiger

Tiger

The tiger is the largest species of big cats. Unfortunately, they are endangered due to excessive amounts f hunting. They have a beautiful reddish orange coat with black stripes. Their under side and insides of their legs can be white.
The tiger can be 2 meters long (with a 1 meter long tail) and weigh up to 363 kg!
Tigers usually hunt alone, their diet depends on what breed they are and where they live but for example, the Bengal tiger will eat prey like deer and wild boar.

#1- There have being 4 species of tigers that have become extinct and 5 still remain.
#2- To kill prey, the tiger will bite the animals throat and not let go and if it is a smaller animal it will break it's neck.
#3- It may take more then one day for a tiger to eat it's kill, so it will cover it with dirt and leaves and will come back to finish it.
#4- Tigers love to swim, unlike other members of the cat family.
#5- Tigers have being over-hunted leading to being endangered and extinct. People would hunt them for their fur and bones, sometimes to use in traditional medicines, another reason is that people take up their habitat turning it into cities and other civilized buildings.

Winter is upon us!

It's getting colder and colder! Why?! I have to electric heater on in the mornings (and I sit next to it) and Lilly often curls up in my jacket or shirt to enjoy the warm air, my old cat Meg, LOVED the heater, when ever it was on she would come running over and sit in front of the heater, it's like it summoned her. :)

Jinny Part 3

Jinny was crying, unable to process what had happened, it was too shocking. She sat next to Storm’s head stroking her smooth dark coat. The vet was already on his way, he didn’t live too far away but in this case, time mattered, there wasn’t enough time. Storm had already collapsed and she was trembling. Jinny’s dad was waiting outside the stable for the vet. Finally he had come and was already squatting next to Storm. Over the phone, Jinny’s mum had told him that it was a brown snake, that’s what Jinny thought she saw. Dr Alfred, their vet, had brought out a syringe, he applied the needle top to it and filled it with liquid. “I’m just going to give her some anti-venom” He spoke as he slid the needle into Storm’s skin. “She is in a pretty bad state, if you waited a little longer she would have being gone, but I don’t know how far the venom has travelled already, it might already be too late” Jinny gasped as her heart sank deeper, her chest was tight and she found it hard to swallow. What if she was going to lose Storm? It would all be her fault for bringing her for a trail ride and letting her get bitten. “All we can do know is wait and see, her kidneys might be clotted and she could die of kidney failure”

Storm was getting worse by the minute, she was tense and she was shaking. Jinny heard her parents and Dr Alfred discussing something. “Jinny” her mother said “Get some rest in your room” Jinny looked up at her mum “Why? It’s not even afternoon? Are you going to put her down?” Her mother looked back at her father “Just go” Jinny started to cry even more and grasped onto Storms neck not willing to let go “I’m sorry, my Stormy, don’t give up” Storm snorted. “Is she going to die, John?” “She is suffering, it’s inhumane to keep an animal alive in such bad health, it’s good for her” Jinny buried her face in Storms mane. It felt like hours had gone by. She had blocked out all the sounds going around her until Storm’s tense neck was finally at ease, she looked at storms delicate face laying in the straw motionlessly. “Thank you John” said her father’s voice “No problem, I’m sorry about Storm she had a great second life here” Dr Alfred’s footsteps slowly faded as he walked down the stable hall. “Is she really gone?” Her parents didn't reply.

To be continued...
God! I hated but loved writing this part! I was crying throughout the whole thing! Sorry about what happened! :(

Numbat

Animal of the week...
Numbat
The numbat is an animal native to Australia. It originates from Western Australia. It is a small animal and despite it being a marsupial, it doesn't have a pouch.

#1- Numbats are omnivores which means they eat both meat (numbats eat insects) plants. They can also be classified as insectivores since most of their diet consists of insects, especially termites.
#2- Numbats don't need to drink water because of the amount of termites they consume can replace water.
#3- Unfortunately, numbats can only live up to around 5 years.
#4- Their tongues are long and sticky, perfect for getting in termite nests to eat small insects.
#5- Numbats are endangered from being killed by non-native animals such as foxes, they are small and defenseless making them an easy mean for a fox or cat.

Pet TAG- My furry friend-Luna

#1- What is your pet's name?
A- My cat's name is Luna, we called her that because when we went to Poland the year earlier to visit my family, my auntie had a cat called Lunia, and that cat was also black and white and she was so sweet and lovely.
#2- What kind of pet is it and what breed?
A- Luna is a cat and she is a domestic shot hair (we adopted her from the shelter).
#3- How long have you had your pet for?
A- We got her around a 6 months after my cat (Meg) had to be put down. So we have had her for almost 2 years!
#4- How did you get your pet?
A- As I already said, we got her sometime after my other cat died at an adoption shelter where we get all our animals from.
#5- How old is your pet?
A- Luna is turning two in October, so she is now about 1 year and 6 months old.
#6- What are some quirky things about your pet's personality?
A- Luna is really gentle and friendly, she has never bit or scratched me on purpose and she also doesn't like to go outside by herself.
#7- What does the relationship with your pet mean to you?
A- All of my pets are the greatest things on Earth to me! I prefer animals then people, animals are always there for you and they are sweet- There is no such thing as a bad animal, just a bad person!
#8- What are some favorite past times with your pet?
A- I haven't known her for that long but she can be really funny sometimes. I love it how when she sits on your lap, she won't move even if you move unlike my other cat.
#9- What are nicknames that you call your pet?
A- There are so many! Bubby, Kicia (cat in Polish), sausage, fluffy etc.

Story- Part 2!

Jinny tacked up Storm and brushed her. Once Jinny was on her mount, they rode together down the gravel drive way to her favourite trail. When the pair were on the other side of their front gate they turned right.  The road would eventually split into two narrow trails. Once they got to that part, they again turned right. This was Jinny’s favourite trail. It was the true Australian bush. Eucalyptus trees spread for hundreds of meters, some even had Koalas in them. At some point the trail widened enough to let the horse and rider canter. They had to slow to a walk when the road became narrow again, this time there were not as many trees, most of them had been burnt from last year’s fires and Jinny was starting to feel the hot sun on her skin. Today’s gonna be hot Jinny thought to herself. Finally they arrived at a beach where they started cantering again. And before they knew it, they were again back on the bush trail, but now going back on the trail to go home. Once they passed the wide stretch of land were they cantered, disaster struck. They were peacefully walking until a snake slithered past, Storm freaked out and her nostrils flared and started breathing heavily. Jinny was scared too and was trying to calm storm down but she started to buck, knocking Jinny right out of her seat and making her fall hard on the ground. While Storm was still bucking she stepped on the snake, in defence, it bit Storm below the knee and slithered away barely injured. Jinny was left lying in on the hard dusty ground, clutching her arm in pain. She couldn’t lye there forever, her horse got bitten by a snake. That sentence motivated her more and more to get up and forget about the pain to go tend her horse. Storm was panting. Jinny ripped of her jacket and wrapped it up tightly around the bite marks which were oozing blood. They weren’t far from home but what Jinny knew about snake bites was that you couldn’t move much or the venom would spread faster. Jinny slowly led Storm through the trail until their home could be seen.

I hope you enjoyed this story, as always please don't take it as it is  mine :) Next Thursday will be part 3!
P.S-In Australia holidays will be coming, tomorrow is the last day before holidays, so I have two weeks of freedom, holidays also mean I will be doing regular updates of both my blogs because I will be spending more time at home!
        Stay fluffy,

Wednesday- Animal of the week!.....Horse

Horse!
Everybody has heard of a horse, they can range in sizes from 80 200 cm tall and even taller (or smaller) in so many different arrays of colours. Some of my favorites are dun, dapple grey, black, chestnut, bay and blue roan :) Horses can be used in many different styles and events like English and Western. In English, it is more formal and you would have events like dressage, cross country and show jumping, while in Western, you would have events like reining, barrel racing and cutting.
1#- horses can live up to their late 30's
2#- horses can sleep both lying down and standing up.
3#- if cut (lawnmower) grass is fed to a horse, it can be fatal
4# there are 3 'genders' of horses! Male and female and a castrated male is called a gelding.
5#- there are over 250 breeds of horses.

Stay fluffy,
